The Anambra State Police Command has waded into the lingering dispute at St. Faith Anglican Church, Awka, in a bid to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, on Thursday, 23rd October 2026, held a peace meeting with parties involved in the dispute at his office in Awka.
During the meeting, CP Nnanna acknowledged that the matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction and stressed the need for all parties to respect the judicial process.
He urged the warring parties to embrace peaceful dialogue and channel their grievances through the established ecclesiastical hierarchy of the Anglican Church, without prejudice to the ongoing court proceedings.
The Police Commissioner cautioned that parishioners and worshippers should not be dragged into the leadership disagreement or made to suffer its consequences.
He called on all stakeholders to show restraint, mutual respect and maturity in the interest of peace, unity and the sanctity of worship.
CP Nnanna also warned against inflammatory statements and confrontational actions capable of escalating tension, noting that the Command would not hesitate to take lawful measures to prevent any breach of public peace.
While reassuring the parties of the Command’s impartiality, the Commissioner said the Police will continue to discharge its duties professionally, respect the authority of the court and uphold the rights of all parties.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command called on church leaders, parishioners and stakeholders to cooperate with peace efforts and refrain from acts capable of turning the dispute into a security challenge.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across the state.
