The Labour Party senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Ven. Tochukwu Ikezue, has declared that former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, will emerge as Nigeria’s president in the 2027 election, despite opposition from Vice President, Kashim Shettima and the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ikezue was reacting to Shettima’s recent criticism of Obi, in which the Vice President reportedly said the Labour Party presidential hopeful had nothing to offer Nigerians beyond statistics.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ikezue described the comment as an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians, insisting that Obi had a verifiable record of prudent management of public resources during his tenure as Anambra Governor.
He said Obi left Anambra State with savings and investments, while accusing the present administration of leaving Nigerians to grapple with rising debt, inflation, hunger and economic hardship.
According to him, Obi’s record demonstrated his ability to manage resources, save for the future and invest in development, adding that the former governor could replicate the feat at the national level.
Ikezue said Obi could also provide a country where “the child of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” stressing that merit, competence and hard work should replace nepotism.
The LP candidate advised Shettima to focus on the achievements of the current administration instead of attacking Obi, whom he described as a politician with proven character, capacity and compassion.
Ikezue expressed confidence that Obi would win the 2027 presidential election, saying his candidacy had massive support among Nigerians.
“Peter Obi will be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2027, and one million Kashim Shettimas cannot stop him,” he declared.
