The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially adopted President Bola Tinubu as its candidate in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Friday during the flag off campaign rally at Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo vowed to deliver at least 50 per cent votes for Tinubu to step up the 5,000 votes the President garnered in the state during the 2023 presidential election.
He said the 50 percent votes was a gesture of gratitude for the progress and infrastructural improvements visible across the State.
Addressing party faithful alongside his deputy, members of the state House of Assembly as well as state executive council, Soludo said opposition parties were afraid of APGA’s strength and defeat.
He said, “Today, we adopt the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, as our candidate. The party had adopted the presidential candidate of the ruling party in previous elections.
“We don’t have a presidential candidate. Tinubu is our candidate. The decision to support him in 2027 is a continuation of that political arrangement. We will work hard to deliver 50 per cent of the state’s votes to him in the January poll.
“Tinubu has demonstrated love and concern for the Igbo people, particularly the people of Anambra State. He had appointed several Anambra indigenes to strategic positions in Lagos State during his tenure as governor.
“Anambra State recorded fewer than 5,000 votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, yet the President has continued to address some of the challenges confronting the state and the South-East region.
While urging people of the state to vote massively for him, Soludo argued that such decision would offer the state and the Southeast stronger opportunity to engage with the Federal Government and negotiate for their development.
“I and my sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who managed the economy of Nigeria in 2003 have stated independently and without equivocation that the economy under Tinubu is doing well.
“This is to show you that he is truly doing well. Let us vote for him to solidify the economy’s growth and also to sit with the government at the centre.
“We can then negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State. We are targeting 50 per cent for the President,” Soludo added.
During the exercise, Soludo also officially unveiled over 253 candidates as standard-bearers across the federation as part of its strategic preparations for the upcoming elections.
He also conducted a symbolic presentation of party flags to 44 candidates representing various legislative constituencies in the state.
The flag recipients included three senatorial candidates, 11 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 30 candidates running for seats in the State House of Assembly.
Also speaking, APGA National Chairman, Chief Sly Ezeokenwa reaffirmed Anambra as APGA land, urging all candidates to take the party’s manifesto to every ward and voting district.
