In a move to uphold accountability and ensure the timely delivery of infrastructural projects, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has terminated the contract with NBHH Engineering Company for their failure to complete nine crucial road projects in Okpoko. The decision was announced during an unannounced visit by the Governor to the project sites on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, signaling the government’s intolerance toward negligence and delay in public works.

The terminated projects, which span a total length of 14.053 kilometers, were crucial for enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth in the Okpoko area. However, their delayed completion has led to growing discontent among the residents, who have been eagerly awaiting the improvement of their local infrastructure.

The affected road projects include:
Obodoukwu – Owerri Road (Length: 2.884km, Width: 12m)
Ogbuagu-Ik Onuora-Anumudu-Mgbuka Amazu -Owerri Road (Length: 2.992km, Width: 7.3m)
Edeh Road-School Road-Awalite- Ojoto -Owerri Road (Length: 1.48km, Width: 9m)
School Road-Umuobom Street- Ojoto Street Junction (Length: 0.576km, Width: 6m)
Umuobom ST (Ojoto St Junction)- Adazi Ani ST – Owerri Road (Length:1. 345km, Width: 6m)
Umenweke ST (Obodoukwu Junction) – Umeojiakor ST (School Rd Junction) (Length: 0.593km, Width: 6km)

Awalite (Ojoto Junction) – Anumudu (Mgbuka Amazu Junction) (Length: 0.991km, Width: 6m)
Uzii Street – Mission Street (Awalite Junction) (Length: 0.538km, Width: 6m)
Anumudu Street (Ik Onuora Junction) – Gmo Road (Length: 0.350km, Width: 9m)
Soludo expressed his disappointment with NBHH Engineering Company’s handling of the projects, citing their inability to meet the agreed timelines as a significant breach of trust and contract. “Our commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure is unwavering, but this cannot be achieved with partners who do not share our sense of urgency and responsibility,” said Governor Soludo.

He assured the residents of Okpoko that the state government is already in the process of selecting a competent and reliable contractor to resume work on the roads, with a clear mandate to expedite their completion without compromising quality.
