IWD: Two Anambra Women Making Powerful Impact in the Petroleum Industry.

They’re powerful amazons with midas touch making great contributions in the oil industry in Nigeria. They have become billionaires and have employed thousands. They have the respect of men who dominate the sector. They are from Anambra State.

Mrs. Nkechi Obi, OON, is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. She is the Founder and Group Managing Director/CEO of Techno Oil Limited, the country’s leading oil and gas company. With a B.Sc in Economics and a background in ExxonMobil Plc, she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the industry. Under her leadership, Techno Oil has become a market leader with a staff of over 500 and multiple distribution outlets across Nigeria. The company supplies ISO 9001:2008 certified products, establishing itself as a reliable and trusted provider.

Catherine Uju Ifejika is another notable figure in the industry. She is the chairperson and CEO of Brittania-U Nigeria Limited and Brittania-U Ghana Limited, two domestic oil companies focused on upstream exploration and production. She is recognized as one of the richest women in Africa and ranks among the top six executives in the global oil and gas sector.

Born on October 28th, 1959, in Opobo, Rivers State, Ifejika is currently 62 years old. Uju studied law and began her career in the oil and gas sector, working for Texaco. Over the years, she gained comprehensive knowledge of both the upstream and downstream components of the petroleum industry. In 2007, she assumed the position of Chairperson and CEO of Brittania-U Nigeria Limited. The company has expanded its operations into various sectors, including upstream, drilling, trade, oil services, geology, and engineering consultation.

In addition to her work with Brittania-U, Ifejika has established other companies such as Brittania-U Ghana Limited, Nexttee Oil & Gas Trading Co. Nigeria Ltd., and Data Appraisal Co. Under her leadership, Brittania-U Nigeria acquired the Ajapa Marginal Field, an oil and gas field with estimated reserves of $4.3 billion.

In 2019, Ifejika made history when Brittania-U Group acquired the largest vessel ever used for trading in Nigeria’s cabotage waters. She is the first and only woman to hold the position of chair and CEO of an Upstream E&P Company in Nigeria.
