The AiRS public enlightenment program “Anambra Tax Matters” on ABS Radio 88.5FM yesterday Wednesday May 15, 2024 was successful.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA ACTI was the studio guest and he discussed the topic; “The Implementation of Anambra Property and Land Use Charge (APLUC) in Anambra State.”

Dr Ezeilo explained APLUC as a consolidation of property and land based rates and charges payable in Anambra State into a new land based charge known as property and land use charge, this is to make provisions for the levying and collection of the charge and for connected purposes. According to him, Anambra State Property and Land Use Charge APLUC was passed into law by the Anambra State House of Assembly on the 26 of November 2011 and was accented by the former executive governor, Mr. Peter Obi on 19 December 2011 which was introduced to harmonize all land based rates and property charges such as (tenament rate, ground rent, infrastructural rate and property charge etc) to be collected under one single charge for both State and Local Government in order to ease administration and collection.

He also emphasized that; “schedule 5 of the APLUC law stated clearly only the State government is entitled to collect APLUC and proportionately shared to the local government, while stressing the importance of handshake/engagement with the local government TC Chairmen and all the stakeholders involved.”

In a bid to digitally drive the revenue collection of the APLUC, Dr Ezeilo further stated that Demand Notice for this will be electronically driven and every payment will be made digitally to designated commercial banks using the taxpayers ASIN number. “This is strategically done to checkmate the bane of illegal revenue collectors”, he enthused.
