A female passenger lost her life on Monday while five others sustained injuries in a ghastly motor accident around Ukpo junction along Onitsha-Nteje-Awka expressway of Anambra State.
The crash which occurred around 6. 45pm involved two vehicles, a commercial Toyota Delica bus and a private Toyota Diana Mack Trailer.
According to eyewitness report, the bus driver was trying to overtake the trailer on the same lane with him but failed, and rammed into the other vehicle coming from opposite direction on a single carriage way and crashed.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the fatal crash to Wrongful Overtaking.
He commiserated with the deceased family and wished the injured quick recovery, just as he admonished motorists to avoid reckless driving especially at night time.
He insisted they should watch and ensure the road was clear before overtaking.
He said, “A fatal road traffic crash was recorded today 10th June, 2024 at Ukpo junction by Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway, between 2 unidentified drivers: A commercial Toyota Delica bus with registration number; NZN116LK.
B) A private Toyota Diana Mack Trailer, with registration number; ACA529XA.
“Three male adults and three female adults were involved in the crash. Five passengers, 3 female adults and 2 male adults were injured while one female adult was killed. One was rescued unhurt.
“The injured victims were rushed to Boromi Mission Hospital Onitsha by FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje for medical attention where one female adult was confirmed dead by the doctor and corpse deposited at the morgue.
“The rescue team managed traffic, towed the two vehicles to the command and ensured obstructions caused by the crash is cleared.”
