A civil rights activist, Comrade Osita Obi has raised the alarm over growing spate of kidnapping in Anambra State.

He decried mysterious disappearance of individuals in the state without any trace of their whereabouts months and years after.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday, Obi who singled out three prominent personalities among the missing persons, demanding their immediate rescue and unmasking of their abductors.

He mentioned the missing persons to include a realtor, Mr Benjamin Ezenma, member, representing Onitsha 1 North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka and the 2021 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the State, Obiora Agbasimalo.

Agbasimalo was abducted September 18, 2021, while Ezenma and Azuka were abducted in November 12 and December 24, 2024 respectively.

He called on security operatives to rescue the abductors as well as fish out their abductors, insisting that such steps would allay fears of jittery citizens as well as restore their confidence of government’s capacity to protect them.

He also charged the media to give the matter the required attention and publicity to ensure concerned authorities rose to the ocassion.

He said, “Where is Ben Ezemma? It is Ben today, it can be me or anyone else tomorrow. In this 21st century, people are abducted, no account given. Comrade Osita Obi will not be part of that system.

“Sometime 2021, one Obiora Agbasimo was abducted. But up till date, he’s yet to be found. Though I learnt some persons were arrested by DSS in connection to that.

“We also learnt about the abduction of Justice Azuka, a sitting member of State House of Assembly. Where is the police in all these? Where is the DSS? Where is the government? Can’t these kidnappers be caught?

“We’re here to interrogate the system and engage the Nigerian Government institutions and systems on the whereabout of these missing persons.

“The government has what it takes to fish out these men. If they’re not alive, their abductors must be fished out. We’re here to demand for their whereabouts.

“Sometime ago, we were asked to register our sim cards to enable government track criminals. Since our profiles and dossiers are with the government, the authorities can track the abductors through their telephone conversations.

“I’m engaging the media to bring the matter to the front burner. I’m pained because the society can’t keep going this way. We must insist on standards.

“Please go to court on this matter. I learnt the matter is coming up on the 11th. Let the public be aware of what is happening and for the government to know the public is watching them.

“If the judge, Police and DSS know the public is watching, they won’t do backyard business.”
