The worsening security situation in Anambra State due to raging activities of Unknown gunmen has chased away some of the big men from the State, making them to avoid visiting their various communities, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

ANAMBRA PEOPLE learnt that as a result of the increasing killings and kidnapping in the State which target the elites, Majority of Anambra billionaires outside the State have opted to stay put in their respective bases in Lagos and Abuja and be safe rather than coming home with the associated risk.

Most of the billionaires from the State live outside the State and have their businesses there. The only time they like to visit their respective Communities are during festive seasons or on occasions like burials or traditional marriage Ceremonies and these visits boost the economy. All these have stopped now because of this intractable insecurity problem facing the State and even the region.

In a chat with one of these billionaires,he lamented the high level of insecurity in the State and explained that it has become very difficult for ‘big men’ like him to see reason to visit the state for anything at least for now.

He said” it would be suicidal to be in Anambra now. Things have gone so bad in the state in terms of security that most of us have decided to stay back where we are safe. The situation is degenerating and it appears we are returning to the dark days when we had our chieftaincy title and traditional marriage ceremonies in Lagos and Abuja. In December alone,I can count about 100 Billionaires who are my friends that did not not bother to come home for Christmas and even Easter. This portends danger to the local economy as most of our businessmen in the east boost their businesses with the money they made during these festive periods”

Another billionaire confirmed that anytime he paid visit to his Community in Anambra State, his personal spending boosts the local economy to the tune of 5million naira through activities like charity and local patronage, but this is no longer the case by his continued absence from his community. He stated that majority of his kinsmen are affected by this development which has adversely affcted their means of livelihood and are opting to relocate to States with better security.

ANAMBRA PEOPLE confirms that 80% of these billionaires no longer visit the state and the few that are courageous enough to visit do that in disguise in other not court the trouble of these unknown Gunmen. Most of the local governments affected by the insecurity in the State are mostly in Anambra South Senatorial Zone namely Ihiala,Orumba North and South, Nnewi South and Aguata.

The impact of the insecurity in the State was noticeable in the event hosted by one of the top politicians from the State who buried his father recently with low attendance of Anambra billionaires considering the Social Status of the politician.

Also an award event billed for easter at Awka was cancelled and venue moved to Lagos.

The menace is equally hindering investors from looking the side of the state considering the fact that money goes where it is comfortable. Most of these billionaires who are nursing the ideas of bringing down their investments to the state are beginning to perish the thoughts and this will continue to affect the State’s IGR.

Recall the governor of the State Prof Soludo had recently promised to put an end to the activities of these Unknown gunmen who he said are criminals and not agitators.

South East has continued to experience increasing killings and kidnapping in recent time. A security report obtained by ANAMBRA PEOPLE confirmed that about 50 persons were killed within 72 hours around the geopolitical zone. This situation and Monday sit-at- home enforced by these unknown Gunmen have continued to cause massive relocation of entrepreneurs and investors from the zone to places like Asaba ,Rivers and Akwa ibom
