This was revealed by the Senate in a recent plenary where lawmakers paid glowing tributes to Anaekwe’s enduring legacy and pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic history.
It will be recalled that Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anaekwe’s Anambra Central Senatorial District, sponsored the motion, which was co-sponsored by Senators Osita Izunaso, Orji Uzor Kalu, Mohammed Monguno, and others.

In passing the motion, the Senate observed a minute’s silence in Anaekwe’s honour, mandated a delegation to visit his bereaved family, and resolved to collaborate with the House of Representatives and the Anaekwe family to ensure a befitting state burial.
The Senate also urged the Federal Government to name a national institution or public edifice after the late Speaker as a lasting tribute to his service to the nation.
