Anambra State has once again taken the national spotlight as the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu, received the prestigious Environment Championship Award.
The honour, conferred by the Coca-Cola Foundation in collaboration with TechnoServe Nigeria, recognizes outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability and innovation in waste management and climate responsiveness.
The award ceremony, held in Lagos over the weekend, further reinforced Anambra’s position as the “Light of the Nation,” not only in governance but also in environmental leadership.
Anambra also came first in the competition as the overall best in the aggregate as State Recycling Team recovered the highest number of plastic waste from the environment.

The recognition celebrates Dr. Odimegwu’s impactful policies, community-driven initiatives, and unwavering dedication to a cleaner, greener Anambra.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Odimegwu expressed deep gratitude to the Coca-Cola Foundation and TechnoServe Nigeria for the recognition and dedicated the award to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, praising his visionary leadership and consistent prioritization of environmental issues through progressive policies and programs.
He also commended the hard-working team at the Ministry of Environment for their support and commitment.
Engr. Odimegwu emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between government, private sector, and communities to address pressing environmental challenges.
He called for increased investment in transformative initiatives, particularly those that promote sustainable waste management, climate adaptation, and environmental education at the grassroots.
Dr. Odimegwu reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Governor Soludo’s environmental agenda and assured stakeholders of continued innovation, transparency, and responsiveness in the state’s approach to environmental protection.
He further urged Nigerians to see environmental stewardship as a collective responsibility for the well-being of present and future generations.
