Renowned Scholar and Former Deputy Director TETFUND UNIZIK, Rev. Sr. Dr. Adaoma Eugenia Sochima Igwedibia has been appointed to Chair the Planning Committee for the forthcoming 5th Edition of the prestigious AMTY(Anambra Man of the Year) awards.
According to the organisers, her choice is in recognition of her outstanding intellect and exceptional leadership qualities.
The appointment of Rev. Sr. Dr. Igwedibia, an accomplished scholar and Associate Professor of English Language and Literature at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, marks another strategic milestone in the continuous evolution of the AMTY Awards, which has become the most celebrated award event in South East Nigeria.
Her selection, according to the organizers, reflects her integrity, visionary leadership, administrative experience, and wide professional network — qualities that align with the ideals of the AMTY brand. With her appointment, expectations are high that this year’s edition will surpass previous ones in both organization and impact.
Over the years, the AMTY Awards has earned an enviable reputation for celebrating excellence and honouring distinguished individuals and organizations that have contributed immensely to the growth and development of society. Each edition has been chaired by respected figures, including Professor Ufoaroh, who led the 3rd edition, and renowned legal luminary Barrister Amaka Ezeno, who chaired the 4th edition.
Since its inception, the Award has consistently expanded in scope and prestige, attracting notable personalities across business, academia, public service, and entertainment. Prominent past recipients include the Chairman of Keystone Bank, Lady Ada Chukwudozie; former Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone; and seasoned engineer and philanthropist, Engr. Barth Nwibe,Chief Ugochukwu Okeke, among others.
This year’s edition, under the leadership of Rev. Sr. Dr. Igwedibia, is expected to introduce fresh innovations and enhanced inclusivity, reflecting the dynamism of the state’s creative and intellectual landscape.
Abridged Profile of Rev. Sr. Dr. Adaoma Igwedibia
Born into the respected family of the late Chief Francis Nwankwo and late Mrs. Maria Ifeoma Nwanedoanya Igwedibia of Ifite-Umueri, Ifite-Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Rev. Sr. Dr. Igwedibia exemplifies excellence, humility, and service. She has combined religious commitment with academic brilliance to become one of Nigeria’s leading female scholars.
Her educational journey began at Development Primary School, Awkuzu, and Girls’ Secondary School, Nteje, before proceeding to the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu. She later attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she graduated with First Class Honours in English and Literary Studies — a feat that earned her an automatic appointment as a lecturer in the same university.
She obtained both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, specializing in Literary Pragmatics before transferring her services to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature.
Academic and Professional Milestones
Sr. Dr. Igwedibia’s research interests span Pragmatics, African and African-American Literature, Diaspora Studies, and Gender Studies. She has authored and co-authored several scholarly articles published in reputable local and international journals, in addition to writing well-received English textbooks used by students across the country.
She has attended numerous academic conferences across Nigeria and abroad, and is a recipient of both Institutional-Based Research Grants and Book Development Grants from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
Her rich professional experience includes serving as Deputy Director of the Advancement Centre at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Council Member of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN); Deputy Director at the Centre for Sustainable Development, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; and Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at the same institution. She also served as Deputy Director, TETFUND Desk, and was a member of the 5th NINLAN Governing Council.
Currently, Rev. Sr. Dr. Igwedibia sits on the Governing Council of the European University of Nigeria, Abuja, which is indicative of her growing influence in both academia and institutional governance.
Her appointment as Chairperson of the 5th AMTY Awards Planning Committee, therefore, not only celebrates her personal achievements but also reinforces the AMTY brand’s tradition of excellence and its commitment to recognizing transformative leadership and impact.
