The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the @bduction and mvrder of a six-year-old girl, in a case allegedly linked to an Enugu-based nat!ve doctor.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who also revealed the identity of the suspect as Friday Akonobi.
According to the statement, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, arrested the suspect in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, over his alleged involvement in the @bduction and kill!ng of Late Miss Ozioma Nwankwo, a six-year-old girl.
The PPRO said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was @bducted on May 10, 2025, from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State before being taken out of the state.
He said, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime in collaboration with four other accomplices who are currently on the run, and further disclosed that the child was taken to Enugu and handed over to a native doctor, identified as Obieze Ezeani, popularly known as “Edey Play, Edey Show.”
The Police spokesperson further revealed that the suspect explained how he and his accomplices operated as agents for the said native doctor, who allegedly paid them the sum of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) for each virg!n girl delivered to him. He said the suspect also revealed that the six-year-old victim was subsequently mvrdered and used for r!tual purposes by the native doctor.
According to the police, the suspect further disclosed that the alleged native doctor had since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command.
The statement read in part: “The suspect also stated that the said native doctor has since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, a development that has generated public attention following the circulation of related videos on social media.
“The Anambra State Police Command assures members of the public that intensive efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.”
