Ogechukwu Success Nwite, sister to the Onitsha trader, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, who was murdered by his apprentice has narrated her ordeal.

The suspect, identified as Chiemerie Anieka, k!lled Nwite with a pestle at No. 2 Enyiuko Street, Fegge, on February 16, 2026.

Speaking to newsmen, Ogechukwu said she was asleep when she suddenly felt a hard object hit her on the head.

Before she could understand what was happening, the apprentice hit her again, and when he attempted to hit her for the third time with the pestle, she grabbed his hand, struggled free, and ran outside to call for help.

According to her, it was at that point she realized that the apprentice had already attacked her brother, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, who was lying unconscious in the kitchen.

Ogechukwu, who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, revealed that the apprentice had been living and working with her brother for about three years.

She said she was not aware of any major misunderstanding between them, except that her brother had recently scolded the apprentice for something he did wrong at the shop.

She expressed disbelief that such a minor issue could provoke such a violent action.

Family sources disclosed that Ogechukwu has been restricted from using the internet, as she is yet to be informed of her brother’s death.

Meanwhile, the suspect is currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Awka for further investigation.
