First Power Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (FEDC), the electricity distribution company serving Anambra State, has appointed a journalist, Izunna Okafor, as Head of Communications.

Izunna, a poet, novelist and writer, was a staff of National Light Newspaper, owned by the Anambra State government, before the newspaper went defunct.

Prior to his recent appointment, he was the Managing Editor of Onyokimita News (www.onyokomita.com) and also working with the Ekweanaedo News (www.ekweanaedonews.com) and 247ureports News (247ureports.com) as a journalist.

Having assumed the role, Izunna has set out to reshape the information dissemination desk of the company, as he issued his first press release on Wednesday, announcing the berthing of a Facebook page and other social media handles for the company.

Announcing the creation of the Facebook platform, he wrote: “This platform provides and serves as your trusted source for accurate and timely updates on power supply, load management, network upgrades, maintenance schedules, customer service improvements, safety advisories, and other related information here in Anambra State.

“Here, we will also clarify issues when necessary, and respond constructively to public concerns. We understand that silence often breeds speculation, especially critical sectors like power. However, that will not define our approach.

“At FirstPower, we are committed to transparency, responsiveness, and continuous engagement with our customers and stakeholders.

“There’s no doubt that electricity is more than power; it is also synonymous to development, productivity, and general quality of life. Hence, effective communication is not optional, but is essential.

“Through clear communication and responsible service delivery, we aim to build trust and strengthen our relationship with the Ndị Anambra State, given our understanding of the importance of electricity to our daily life and economic activities. That is why we are committed not just to power distribution, but also to responsible communication and media relations.

“While we urge members of the public to utilize our official customer service channels for complaints, inquiries, and feedback; we also encourage the media, stakeholders, and customers to rely on our verified channels for accurate updates and to engage with us in good faith.

“Follow our social media handle (https://www.facebook.com/firstpowerdisco) for timely and reliable updates.

“Stay connected. Stay informed. Stay empowered.”
