The Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, has called on community leaders across Anambra State to strengthen security measures to ensure full compliance with the state government’s directive ending Monday sit-at-home.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement with Chairmen of Parents Teachers Associations in the state, Professor Ikediugwu disclosed that mayors of the 21 local government areas and Presidents-General of 177 communities have been mandated to provide adequate security within their jurisdictions. The move, she said, is aimed at creating a safe environment for pupils and students to resume full academic activities on Mondays.

She urged parents to set aside their fears and allow their children to return to school at the start of the week, noting that security operatives have been strategically deployed every Monday to safeguard lives and property.

Addressing concerns raised by PTA Chairmen over the state’s free education policy, Professor Ikediugwu clarified that the policy only abolished PTA levies and did not sideline the associations. She emphasized that schools cannot function effectively without the active involvement of PTAs.

Also speaking at the meeting, the PPSSC Member in charge of Awka Zone, Dr. Uche Okeke, and one of the PTA Chairmen, Chief Francis Udeoba, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for efforts to improve security in the state. They assured the Commission’s Chairman that there would be a significant increase in student attendance by the following Monday.
