Expect Sacrifice, Not Comfort, Soludo Tells New Appointees

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, on Wednesday swore in 14 political appointees, whom he described as principal officers.

While administering the oath of office at the Light House, Awka, he stressed the importance of teamwork, noting that it is a critical framework for achieving the government’s agenda.

He stated that his second term is operating at “speed 2.0” and expressed sympathy for the appointees, saying that, unlike in the typical Nigerian system, there are no material gains attached to the appointments.

“I congratulate and commiserate with you for coming to serve, because the sacrifices are beyond what the public can see. When you consider the weight of over nine million people domiciled in the state, and about 10 million others outside, you understand the enormity of the task. I commiserate with you because I do not see a dining table, as is common in typical Nigerian situations, but rather hard work.

“The benefits or pay are peanuts compared to what you would earn in your private businesses,” he said.

According to the governor, each appointee was carefully and intentionally selected, not by coincidence.

He said: “I emphasise the word ‘team’ because we have only one ball to play into the goal. The team must work together. It is a 24/7 responsibility.”he said.
