Tension is mounting in Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency following explosive allegations against former House of Representatives member, Hon. Vincent Ofumelu, over the alleged issuance of fake employment letters to more than 100 constituents.
The development, which has sparked outrage across the constituency, is linked to events dating back to 2021 when the ex-lawmaker reportedly handed out employment letters to about 108 persons, assuring them of job placements in an organisation identified as the “National Taskforce.”
Five years on, however, investigations indicate that none of the beneficiaries has secured employment, leaving many frustrated and disillusioned.
The situation has taken a more troubling turn as findings suggest that the so-called “National Taskforce” is neither a recognised nor registered agency under any state or federal government structure, fuelling suspicions that the organisation may not exist in any official capacity.
Sources within the constituency expressed shock over the allegations, questioning how such letters could have been issued by a serving federal lawmaker at the time.
They described the development as deceptive and unfair to unsuspecting constituents who had placed their trust in the scheme.
Anger is now boiling over among the affected individuals, with reports indicating that some are mobilising for protests and planning to petition the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State.
Their demand: that the party reconsider Ofumelu’s reported ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of press time, Hon. Ofumelu has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
Meanwhile, tension continues to rise as constituents await clarity and possible action on the matter.
