2027: Chris Uba Emerges ADC’s Factional Presidential Candidate

Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) has plunged further into internal crisis after a faction of the party announced businessman and controversial politician, Chris Uba as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, intensifying an already explosive leadership struggle.

The Bala Gombe-led bloc of the party unveiled Uba in Abuja following what it described as a “consensus arrangement” under provisions of the Electoral Act. Party leaders claim the decision came after other presidential aspirants voluntarily stepped down and endorsed Uba, clearing the path for his emergence as the faction’s sole flagbearer.

The faction also maintained that the presidential ticket had been zoned to Southern Nigeria in the interest of equity, federal character, and internal balance within the party.

However, the announcement has widened an existing split within the ADC, which now effectively operates under competing power centres.

Another faction led by former Senate President David Mark had earlier conducted its own primaries, producing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate. That process reportedly saw Atiku defeat former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi and ex-banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

There’s also another faction which has recognized Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate.
