Anyone who has met Sir Paul Chukwuma, Esq, can easily attest that he is a man of immense conviction with laser focus, ever willing and ready to walk the talk. He is deeply value-oriented, philosophical, and courageous. With these attributes, for many, moving from academic excellence to marketplace excellence was the natural order of things for people like him. Indeed, even when it never comes easy, success can be mastered. But when it extends to every facet of a man’s life, including his family life, it is no longer just mastery. It is a life of purpose enveloped by grace.

Over the weekend, Miss Benita Chinenye Chukwuma, daughter of Sir Paul Chukwuma, graduated with a law degree from Aston University, Birmingham, England. Her graduation, which was celebrated by close friends and immediate family members in England, offers some lessons for many young men from Anambra State today. Seeing one’s child graduate from the university remains one of the most prized moments for every parent. For Sir and Lady Paul Chukwuma, the excitement is no different.

Paul Chukwuma, reputed for his brilliance and excellent academic background as a first-class graduate of philosophy from the University of Nigeria, many years later, also made a first-class in law from Baze University. Beyond academic excellence, Sir Paul is reputed as a business leader, political leader, and education consultant of immense competence whose journey reflects the finest “I can do” spirit placed in man by God.

At just 48 years, Sir Paul Chukwuma now has a daughter who is a law graduate, a convincing demonstration of focus, faith and the grace of God at work in a man’s life. Paul Chukwuma has not only conceived of a life of impact through embracing responsibility, but he also lives what he preaches. For an Anambra man to have a child who is a graduate, while he is less than 50 years old, is something that should inspire a lot of young Igbo men who desire to live a purposeful life. Family cannot be removed from a man’s success story. Interestingly, for those who think that family burdens, obstructs, or delays success, again, Benita Chukwuma’s graduation from Aston University shows that with a supportive spouse, a man, even an Anambra man with big dreams who started from ground zero just like Paul Chukwuma, can live a balanced life, achieving both family and personal success. A man can meet and surpass his goals with unwavering faith, focus, and determination. The family life of an ambitious man does not need to suffer because he needs to focus on his career.

Before the age of 50 years, an Anambra man can have career success, business success, academic success, and also family success that has produced a university graduate. This is not a small feat. The lessons and motivation are immense. Young men must begin to carefully and deliberately plan their lives and focus on their journey of a balanced life, hoping that as they put in their best, the grace of God will see them through. The promise of God that we shall see our children’s children is not to be taken to mean that it is independent of how we have lived. No promise of God is independent of our conduct.

Congratulations, Benita!

Congratulations to Sir Paul and Lady Ify Chukwuma!
