The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) has commenced free screening for cervical, breast, and prostate cancer as a gesture to commemorate the 66th birthday of Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. The exercise, which according to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of COOUTH, Dr. Maureen Umeakuewulu, commenced on Monday and will last till Friday, when the Governor’s wife, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, will be marking her birthday.
Between Monday and Tuesday, hundreds of people have been screened for breast, cervical and prostate cancer at COOUTH, free of charge. On Tuesday alone, more than 200 people showed up for the screening exercise.
Speaking on the choice of free cancer screening, COOUTH CMD, Dr. Umeakuewulu, said that the screening offers an insight into Governor Soludo’s passion for the wellbeing of Ndi Anambra. According to the CMD, the free cancer screening is just a modest way to communicate the Governor’s heart of service as well as the infinite support his wife, Dr. Nonye has given to the Governor and even the State (through her healthy living campaign, which has made a remarkable impact in many families).
Also, some friends of the Governor organized a week-long free medical care and surgeries across at least four General Hospitals in Anambra State to mark his 66th birthday. The exercise is supervised by the Anambra State Ministry of Health, and spearheaded by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike.
Governor Soludo’s 66th birthday is commemorated with week-long impactful events that reflect the Governor’s commitment to improving lives.
