A Magistrate Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State has remanded one Ekene Ukeh in Correctional Centre for allegedly obstructing an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the lawful execution of his duty.
The suspect was arraigned by the NSCDC State Command before the court on Tuesday for various offences, including assault and obstruction of an officer in the lawful execution of his duty contrary to section 351 and 197 of the criminal code law cap38 revised laws of Anambra state.
According to State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, the Command took decisive action against the suspect who was arrested on Sunday, July 26 2026, at about 1100hrs by the Anti-Vandalism Squad at Amansea, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka.
He stated that the suspect was intercepted while driving a truck allegedly laden with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
“Instead of complying with the stop order, the suspect allegedly drove through NSCDC personnel, almost attempted running them over.
“The tanker was later intercepted at the Military Checkpoint, Amansea, following a hot chase.
“At the point of interception, the suspect resisted arrest and assaulted the Anti-Vandal personnel, hurling unprintable abuses at him before he was subdued and arrested,” he state.
While condemning the attack on Corps personnel, Maku reiterated that the NSCDC will not tolerate any form of assault or obstruction of its officers while carrying out lawful duties, warning that prosecution of the suspect would serve as a deterrent to others.
