Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor has expressed his Ministry’s readiness to partner with transport unions in the state, describing them critical to achieving the Solution Government’s mandate of value reformation across the state.

Mefor disclosed this while receiving members of the Unified Drivers Welfare Association on a courtesy visit at his office in Awka, where they decorated him as the Grand Patron of the association.

Addressing the group, Mefor said the proposal to partner with the ministry is “historic, timely and strategic” because reaching the grassroots with the message of value reformation cannot be done without the transport sector.

He explained that the ministry is already working with other organisations and institutions, and a framework for value reformation is before the State Executive Council.

He linked the urgency to rising insecurity, citing the rising spate of cult killings and activities in Awka South and Idemili North.

“We cannot get to the governor’s dream of making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland with this level of violence. We must confront it.

“That is why we are desperately looking for partners that can help us reach the nooks and crannies of the state,” he said.

While advising various bodies under the association to nominate representatives to join the ministry’s technical committee already working on the value reformation manual, Mefor said the representatives would make inputs and also take decisions back to their members to ensure everybody was carried along.

He added that the transport system would be used to disseminate messages in English, Pidgin and Igbo, and that drivers will distribute materials and engage passengers on support for the Solution Government’s long-term agenda.

“Soludo is not campaigning for votes. He is campaigning for Anambra to be good. His plans for Dubai-Taiwan-Silicon Valley Anambra will benefit our children in 2070. That is the mark of a true patriot,” Mefor said.

The commissioner further hinted that the partnership had effectively commenced with the visit and decoration, stressing that foundational work must begin now so that future administrations can build on it.

Earlier, National Coordinator of the association, Elvis Oliver Okolie, said the association, which represents over 120,000 drivers and more than 450,000 dependents, was desirous to partner with the ministry as drivers remained key to changing Anambra’s value system.

“On a daily basis, issues of information and value reformation will be moving within not less than 720,000 people that operate on Anambra roads. That is the core reason we are here to partner,” he said.

While identifying public attitude and appearance of drivers as part of value reformation, Okolie said the group also wanted the Commissioner to assist oversee drivers’ welfare as their grand patron.

The decoration of the Commissioner was done by the National President, Drivers Welfare Club, Comrade Monday Ehinigbe.
