Alor community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State will in no distant time welcome the first government-owned primary and secondary schools for the people to enjoy unhindered access to quality and comprehensive education.

The community at the moment does not partake in Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s comprehensive free education policy because the community is proliferated with private schools owned either by the church or private individuals, which makes it extremely difficult for the poor and indigent children to access cognitive development in such places.

However, Hon. Barr. Ebuka Igwe, the incumbent lawmaker representing Idemili-South state constituency in the 8th legislature, has stated that the story is about to change because he has attracted a primary school and a secondary school which are currently under construction and would be ready for access before the commencement of the second-term academic session.

Igwe, who spoke to journalists in his office at the state assembly complex in Awka, said Alor, his community, is blessed with road infrastructure, but the absence of a public school is a fundamental issue in the community because not every family can afford the exorbitant school fees of private schools.

The erudite lawmaker who is seeking to be reelected for a second term in office disclosed that apart from attracting the construction of government-owned primary and secondary schools in his community, he has equally extended constituency interventions in other communities of Idemili-South Local Government Area.

He said his first tenure has been marked by strategic interventions across critical sectors of development and that his approach to constituency interventions has combined direct constituency projects with attracted government interventions, ensuring that Idemili South benefits from both representation and influence.

According to him, education remains a cornerstone of sustainable development, and he has equally made significant investments in the sector, as evident in the renovation of five classroom blocks and perimeter fencing at Girls’ Secondary School, Awka-Etiti.

The project, he said, has improved the learning environment, enhanced security, and restored dignity to public education infrastructure.

Other interventions the lawmaker listed were renovation of a two-storey classroom block at Unity Secondary School, Nnokwa. A major upgrade that has provided students with a safer and more conducive academic setting.

Ongoing renovation of Agbom Primary School, Eziagbom Ngo Nnobi, enhancing the appearance and learning environment of the school for pupils and teachers. Annual scholarship awards to students in Idemili South.

Apart from attracting the first government primary and secondary schools in Alor community, Igwe further listed other areas of his impactful stewardship and representation in the 8th assembly.

He attracted the construction of an erosion control discharge drain at Ojoto, which helped combat environmental degradation and protected homes and roads from erosion damage.

The ongoing construction of solar-powered bus stops along Old Oba–Nnewi Road and New Oba-Nnewi Road a modern initiative that combined transportation convenience with renewable energy solutions, coupled with the construction of a bus stop at Umuagu Junction along Nnobi–Nkpor Road, thereby providing commuters with safe and accessible waiting areas.

The lawmaker noted that he attracted the rehabilitation and reticulation of a solar-powered borehole in Isu Village, Oba and the project has significantly improved access to clean water for residents, schools, and healthcare facilities.

Other constituency projects to his credit were the construction of a skill acquisition centre in Alor community, renovation of the Primary Health Care Centre at Alor, water supply extension to Primary Healthcare Centre, Isu Village, Oba, as well as donation of solar lights to Ngo Nnobi Health Centre, amongst numerous other constituency interventions.
