The people of Amudo village in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, Monday, said they have invested about N3.250 million on rehabilitation of trunk B roads across the community abandoned by the government, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The Chairman of the Community, Mr Timothy Motolu, who disclosed this while inspecting the pace of work along Ifite road to Aroma junction, off Enugu-Onistha expressway, explained that amount being expended on the road was high due to cost of materials, payment of workers, transportation and others.

According to him, the village through voluntary contributions from members decided to fix all the failed portion of their roads, including the potholes and gullies in order to make the road motorable, decongest the traffic and ease the sufferings of commuters, and the residents generally.
He recalled that the road was constructed over twenty years ago through Petroluem Trust Fund (PTF), and all attempts to get the government rehabilitate them failed, hence their decision to assist the government in making them work.

The community leader further appealed to governor Chukwuma Soludo to come to their rescue by constructing a hanging bridge to link Ifite to Amudo across the Enugu-Onistha expressway with a view to easing the traffic jams at Aroma.

Also speaking, Mr Uchenna Ozoekwe, an Abuja based businessman, said he returned to Awka to join in making the road passable for the overall good of business community, workers and other residents of Awka, who according to him, suffered untold hardship and wants because of the deplorable road conditions.

“I am a business man and grassroots person, I deemed it fit to facilitate this project for my people because I believe that government cannot do it alone. Our roads are bad. So, we are carrying out this palliative road work because we are government. We can’t keep waiting for them when we know we can do something to get the roads work again,” he stated.
