The Anambra State government says the recent messages sent to eligible taxpayers in the state is part of efforts to expand her capacity to grow the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state to drive development and build the economy as the Federal Allocation cannot support the level of development the state seeks, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

This was contained in a statement by Taxpayer Education and Enlightenment Team (TEET) of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS).

The statement said the AiRS had in the past months embarked on massive identification and sensitization of taxpayers, while also providing guidelines for electronic tax filing in compliance with the Personal Income Tax Act (As Amended) 2011.

The revenue house noted that the BULK Messaging became necessary following the expiration of the deadline for voluntary compliance for individuals who have neither their annual returns nor remitted taxes.

“The deadline for voluntary compliance having elapsed, the AiRS in exercise of her duty as the tax authority in Anambra State, has proceeded to raise best of judgment assessments in compliance with relevant tax laws, for individuals who have neither filed their annual returns nor remitted their taxes,” the statement reads in part.

According to the statement, the service has also provided channels for identified individuals who may have left the state or who are not liable to pay tax in Anambra state to provide additional information as to why they should not be held liable to tax in the state.

“People who fall under this category should visit www.anambra.tax/app/verify to supply further information to enable the state Board of internal revenue to reassess their status,” the statement added.
