The emergence of former Central Bank Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as Governor of Anambra state raised the hopes of many Nigerians; both within the state and outside; owing to his visible capacity as an administrator. However, few months after his inauguration, certain inherited problems appear to be frustrating the smooth takeoff of his government’s plans for the state.

Among these inherited problems as revealed by the Governor in a recent report, are these two (2) below;

  1. Inadequate funds in the state’s treasury
    One of the key problems that have visibly slowed down the momentum of Soludo’s government, is the inadequate funds within the state’s treasury. Recall, just after his swearing – in, the Governor reportedly revealed that he inherited an Anambra treasury which was in bad shape, as the state had low funds and over 100billion naira in debts. Even recently while presenting the revised budget at the state’s House of Assembly, the Governor re – echoed this problem. One thing is clear, it is hard to see how Soludo will be able to implement his plans for the state, if this problem persists. Nevertheless, going by his confidence and visible plans, perhaps the governor will be able to deploy his expertise to solve this problem, and implement his plans for the state.
  2. Pervasive insecurity within the state
    Another problem the governor has identified as frustrating in his bid to implement his plans, is the visible pervasive insecurity which he also inherited from the previous administration. Noticeably, these security problems mainly worsened prior to the 2021 governorship poll and have continued to fester in recent times. As it stands, Anambra remains one of the most hit in terms of insecurity within the southeast region.
