Igbo songs have over time, experienced a wave of change from what it used to be in the 80s and 90s, following how the likes of Nigerian Igbo singers, Theresa Onuorah, Flavour and Phyno, were able to not only inspire upcoming Igbo artistes, but also step up the standard of Igbo songs in the music industry.
Before now, Igbo artistes in the music industry were mostly found in the Jazz genre of music, as the likes of Oliver De Coque, Stephen Osita Osadebe, Mike Ejeagha and Victor Uwaifo, thrilled Nigerians in the 80s and 90s with their unique Igbo songs using the Jazz genre of music.
However, things seems to have taken a new turn in the music industry, following how Flavour, Phyno and Theresa Onuorah, keep producing Igbo songs in their respective genres.
Phyno, an Igbo rapper in the Nigerian music industry, is one among the many Nigerian rappers that is well known for his flows of Igbo lyrics in his songs, a unique talent that made the rapper to receive several nominations and awards over the years.
Theresa Onuorah on the other hand, is one of the veteran female Igbo artiste in the Nigerian music industry that makes use of the Jazz genre in producing inspiring Igbo songs. The legendary singer makes use of the Igbo language in her songs, so well that she keeps being invited to thrill her audiences in several events.
Also, the Jazz singer despite her old age, keeps raising the standard of Igbo songs in the Nigerian music industry, following how she was able to collaborate with her colleagues, Phyno and Flavour, in her song, “Egedege”.
Nigerian legendary afro beat singer, Flavour, is also among the list of Nigerian Igbo artistes that keeps raising the standard of Igbo songs in the music industry, following how he keeps using the Igbo language in his songs, in addition to the culture and traditions of the Southeastern region of Nigeria which he continues to display through his songs.
Flavour has also received several awards and nominations over the years, some of which are yet to be achieved by some Igbo singers in the industry.
Finally, Theresa Onuorah, Phyno and Flavour, raised the standard of Igbo songs in the music industry, following how they were able to produce a song together, despite their respective genres.
