Poised to leave a legacy for others, Ojoto Development Town Union (ODTU), Lagos branch, has begun construction of a civic centre at Amuwo Odofin area of the state, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

Chairman of ODTU, Chief Alex Okwudili Agwuna, said the legacy project would be bequeathed to their incoming generation to serve as a rallying point for physical meetings.

Chief Agwuna, who spoke at the building site during the association’s end of year party, said the building, which is at foundation level, will have two floors, a hall for meetings of members of the association and for people to host events, and also shops for business activities.

He expressed optimism that the building would be completed within the next two years given the level of commitment by the members to the project.

He also noted that hosting the end-of-year get-together at the association’s building site was a way of mobilising people to see the level of work done so far, and make more commitments towards fast tracking the project through financial contributions and material support.

While thanking donors in commencing the project, Chief Agwuna called on other members to participate in the activities of the association and see the need to support the project which according to him will also be a source of revenue generation for them.

He said: “We are thanking God for one year again, for giving us life, that’s why we are here.

“We are here to also show our people the ODTU building project that we have started.

“The building will serve us when we are having meetings. We are going to have meetings here and we are also going to put it on rent. Individuals, churches, schools and organizations can come and rent it.”

“We want to leave a legacy for our people that are coming. We are going to tell our children that this is the civic centre that Ojoto has in Lagos so that they will continue from where we stopped.”

Also, vice chairman, ODTU, Mr. Uzo Mbah expressed delight that they were able to begin raising the structure in their regime after many hurdles they encountered in the past in acquiring the land, and thanked God for giving the association’s members the grace to start the project.

Mbah hailed ODTU’s chairman for his dedication and relentless effort that saw the commencement of the project.

He also acknowledged the encouragement and moral support by members of the ODTU executives and elders among them towards the building project and activities of the association generally.
