Dr. Victor Umeh, OFR

The Senatorial candidate of Labour Party for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh has dismissed the judgement of an Awka Federal High Court which disqualified him from contesting the election saying that his opponent, Senator Uche Ekwunife and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have no power in law to challenge his nomination by Labour Party.

ANAMBRA PEOPLE gathered that the Federal High Court, Awka, presided over by Hon. Justice H. A. Ngajiwa had on Friday sacked him from the race because of improper nomination.

But Umeh in a statement said that having studied the judgement with his Lawyers and following numerous phone calls and inquiries, he opted to issue the statement to reduce the palpable anxiety gripping a broad spectrum of Anambra Central People and many Nigerians.

He said that without going deep into the Details of the Judgment that he was “completely dissatisfied with the Judgment and hereby reject same”.

He continued: “Sen Uche Ekwunife and the PDP clearly do not have locus standi to challenge my Nomination in the Labour Party in accordance with the Extant Laws and therefore, the Judgment was delivered without Jurisdiction.

“It is curious that the same Judge who had earlier dismissed the Suit filed by Sen Ifeanyi Ubah and the YPP challenging the Nomination of Hon Chris Azubogu as the Candidate of APGA for Anambra South Senatorial District for lack of locus standi, describing them as meddlesome interlopers, made a somersault in the present Judgment”, Umeh wondered.

He said that his lawyers and those of the Labour Party have been instructed to file Appeals against the Judgment and appealed to his numerous supporters and well wishers to remain calm.

He reiterated his confidence that the Court of Appeal will redress the wrong.
