The current national school athletics high jump champion, achieved a new personal best of 2.05 metres, thereby qualifying to represent Nigeria at the African Youth Championship (AYC) later this year.

Ezechichiri’s coach, Johnny Igboka who led a seven-man team to Kaduna was satisfied with his team’s performance. Other members of his includes Eze Peace, who came second and third in the female U-18 category of shotput and javelin events, respectively, while Kenechukwu Nwabueze finished third and fourth in the 800 metres and 1,500 metres events, respectively.

Chukwukere Gold, finished fifth and sixth in the 400 metres and 800 metres U-18 categories, respectively. Igboka praised Chairman of the Anambra Sports Development Commission, Patrick-Estate Onyedum, for ensuring their participation in all invitations received in 2023, adding that it was already yielding dividends in raising a generation of champions.

Igboka went on to rate the event as a success saying it provided budding athletes an opportunity to compete at the national front.
