Anambra Police Busts Armed Robbery Gang, Recovers Lethal Weapons, Stolen Tricycles

Operatives of the Ogbaru Division of the Anambra State Police Command have busted a notorious armed robbery gang tormenting residents in and around Okpoko, Obosi, Atani, Oba and environs.

The feat, made possible with the collaboration between the Police and Community Vigilante in the area, was disclosed Saturday, by the command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to a statement by the command, the operatives arrested one Jekwu, identified as a notorious gangster and leader of the gang, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. With clues gathering from his interrogation, they picked up another member of his gang as he attempted to evacuate the gang’s cache of arms from the arrested kingpin’s hideout.

He was also taken into custody alongside items recovered from him, which include one Pump Action Semi-Automatic Gun and two locally made Pistols.

A second gang member was also taken into custody with further interrogation leading to the recovery of five stolen Tricycles with the following registration numbers:

Owners of the said tricycles have been urged to come forward with relevant documents to claim them.
