The Governor of Anambra state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, former governor, HE. Mr Peter Obi, the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha and Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, HM. Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe and others earlier today attended the commissioning of Emeka & Bunmi Anyaoku Foundation Centre as part of activities marking the 91st birthday celebration of the former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.
The center which is located in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government area, the hometown of HE Emeka Anyaoku has a museum, library and others.
The Governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Soludo while speaking at the occasion emphasized the importance of celebrating heroes while they are still alive, highlighting his commitment to recognizing “Anambra champions” and providing them with well-deserved appreciation.
Governor Soludo reiterated his administration’s focus on improving human capital through initiatives like free education, healthcare, and support for the less privileged. He also encouraged wealthy individuals in the State to invest in community development instead of extravagant spending.
“The Anyaoku Foundation Center promises to be a valuable resource for future generations, inspiring intellectual curiosity and community engagement”
He emphasized the lack of appreciation for intellect in the region and applauded the creation of the center as a place for learning and cultural preservation and urged wealthy individuals to channel their resources towards improving government schools and public services. He later pledged to keep supporting the sustainability of the Anyaoku Foundation Center through an endowment fund.
The celebrant, Chief Emeka Anyaoku while speaking thanked God for attaining 91 years of age. He acknowledged the foundation’s role in fulfilling a shared dream with his wife to nurture a love of reading and learning within the community.
Earlier, the Director of the Center, Miss Oluchi Nguzoro, explained the comprehensive offerings of the Foundation, which include a museum, library, archives, cultural displays, and exhibitions.
The Former Minister of Aviation and fmr Corps Marshall of FRSC, Chief Osita Chidoka, Chief of Staff to the Governor Soludo, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Traditional Ruler of Obosi community, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, among others were some of the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
