The honourable Commissioner for Children and Women affairs in Anambra State, Mrs Ify Obinabo is set to be honoured as the Eminent Magazine Woman of the year.
In a letter to the commissioner, the publisher of Eminent Magazine ,Mr Uchenna Obizoba stated that the commissioner was selected for the award for being at the forefront of the fight against injustice meted on women and children.
Mr Obizoba stated that the enthusiasm about the commissioner stemmed from the fact that she had carried her duty with so much passion and great sense of responsibility ” this is rare in Nigeria now”,he said.
In her acceptance speech, the commissioner said she was excited about the award and commended the organizers for finding her worthy of nomination. According to her, the award would continue to motivate her to continue making great effort in liberating the weak in the society. She added that apart from what people see as her achievements, “my greatest legacy in the ministry won’t be only securing the lifting of the ban on adoption by the USA but also having the Governor approve the empowerment of women to the tune of N1.5 billion, helping the vulnerable, standing in the way of people intimidating women, and stopping rapists, illegal adoption, and child trafficking in Anambra State. “The rich will not intimidate the poor, nor the poor intimidate the rich; everyone must be allowed to breathe,” she said.
Eminent Man of the Year Award is an event that aims to celebrate outstanding personalities who have made significant contributions to society. The 2024 edition is slated to hold at the Hilton Leisure Hotel Awka, the Anambra State Capital, on the 23rd of June, 2024. This year’s event is the 6th edition, and it’s expected to attract a myriad of distinguished guests from various sectors.
Organized by the Eminent Media Group, the award will be chaired by High Chief Anthony Ogugua.
