A Christian cleric, Rev Elvis Okolie has regretted that Anambra state at thirty-three years old is still groping in darkness in terms of development strides.
Okolie, National President of Joint Transporters Forum, (JTF) hinged his conclusion on the lingering insecurity domiciled in the state.
Reacting to questions from reporters on the overview of Anambra state at thirty-three years of creation, the cleric argued that a state at 33years old is no more a baby or a toddler, but an adult who is in his prime age of putting his energies together for development with a view to building for its old age.
“Anambra state at 33years old is expected to have married by now with about two to three kids at this particular time and taking care of them, saying the state ought to have produced meaningfully two to four vintage projects within the years in review.
“The reason for creating states is to allow development trickle down to the people quicker and easier. The essence of creating Anambra state is nothing other than to further development and spread same to every nook and crannies of the state.
“Just let us look at Anambra state at 33 years, her development index it is not too bad and at the same time, not too good. In terms of development, Anambra is still groping and is trying come to up.
“The state is not coming up at the pace expected of it because of the vicious insecurity in the area today.
“Yes we are not saying that there are no insecurity in other areas of the country, but what we are saying is that there are no significant reasons why these insecurities should be there.
“One wonders how the state should be having this type of insecurity it is having at 33 years. It is no longer a question of other tribes influencing it but is now being influenced by the Anambrarians themselves.
“It is expected that our security architecture should be supperb by now but the state is having lapses in that direction.”
Okolie called on state Government and Security Agencies in the state to rise to the ocassion, insisting that the kinetic approach currently be applied over the prevailing insecurity could not produce expected results.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on Anambra state Government and Security Agencies in the state to do something meaningful about insecurity in the state immediately.
“We are in a digital era where we do not have to apply analogue and some other old or archaic patterns to solving a contemporary problems like insecurity, not with standing.
“Kinetic approach being applied now for this lingering insecurity cannot produce expected results because one cannot tell somebody that is hungry to stop crying without giving the person food to enable him to stop crying.
“One cannot tell a young man full of energy not to assert his energy, he must assert it either rightly or wrongly. Tthe thing his guardian has to is to harness the energy and channel it properly for productivity by creating an enabling environment.
“Anambra state for the past 33 years was at the age where it is expected to have developed an enabling environment for the youths to thrive.
“When the enabling environment is not there, the youths cannot be held responsible because of the autochthonous power pushing out from them to display what they have inside them.
“Anambra state is number one in the country in terms of business. What is happening today with our business environment?” the cleric querried.
