2027 poll: We’re ready to swim or sink with Obi – Obidient Movement vows

Obidient Movement, Anambra State chapter on Monday said it was determined to swim or sink with Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, urging him not to relent in his quest to reclaim the mantle of leadership in 2027.

Obidient Movement is an umbrella body of political support groups backing Obi.

The declaration formed part of the eight point Communique issued at the end of strategic stakeholders meeting held on Sunday in Awka, Anambra State.

The meeting attended by State Executive council members made up of Obidient Movement State Exco members, State Coordinators of registered support groups and Local Government Area Coordinators also denied endorsing any Governorship aspirant in the 2025 Anambra guber race.

The statement jointly signed by Lead Coordinator and General Secretary, Comrade Obiora Charles Anueyiagu and Edwin Utazi read in parts, “We reaffirmed our commitment and unflinching support to our principal, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi and his quest to liberate Nigeria from the yoke of selfish and vision less leadership.

“Despite losing his 2023 presidential mandate in the most bizarre controversial manner, Peter Obi has continued to demonstrate to Nigerians and the whole world that he is the kind of leader that Nigeria needs to liberate it from the cycle of economic and political doldrums.

“And we are praying earnestly for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi to give Nigerian presidency another shot in 2027, knowing fully well that members of Obidient Movement across Nigeria are waiting in their trenches to finish what they started in 2023.

The group further declared its readiness to back a candidate cast in the mold of Obi.

Obidient Movement have not endorsed any candidate yet but will rally behind any Governorship candidate who meets our established criteria, who align with our core principles of accountability, good governance, and community welfare.

Mostly, we are ready to back any candidate whose vision and political aspirations resonates with the ideals and values of our servant leader, Mr. Peter Obi whose selfless and human capital development oriented program is legendary.

“Our choice candidate must be someone that put Anambra citizens first and not self glorification and aggrandizement.

The group which has reiterated its commitment to mobilize its members to participate massively in the forthcoming governorship and general elections, how vow to resist attempt by external forces to distabilize its members.

“We stand united in our determination to resist any undue external influence or dominion that seeks to undermine the integrity and autonomy of our movement, as well as the political processes in Anambra State.

“Though, we are ready to work with the leadership of the Obidient movement at the national led by Dr. Tanko Yanusa, we will stand against onslaught of dark political forces that work at variance with interest of genuine and committed members of the movement in Anambra State.

Communiqué Issued by the OBIDIENT MOVEMENT, Anambra State at the end of its State Executive Council and Local Government Coordinators Strategy Meeting

Members of the Anambra State Executive Council and Local Government Coordinators of Obidient Movement held a Strategy Meeting on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Labour Party/Peter Obi Campaign Office, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, Anambra State and after a critical review of activities of the movement prior to the 2023 general election till date and what lies ahead, deliberated and took the following decisions for the survival and prosperity of the movement. In light of this, we hereby present the following eight-point communiqué

  1. Commitment to Mr. Peter Obi: We, the members of the OBIDIENT MOVEMENT in Anambra State, reaffirmed our commitment and unflinching support to our principal, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi and his quest to liberate Nigeria from the yoke of selfish and vision less leadership. Despite losing his 2023 presidential mandate in the most bizarre controversial manner, Peter Obi has continued to demonstrate to Nigerians and the whole world that he is the kind of leader that Nigeria needs to liberate it from the cycle of economic and political doldrums. And we are praying earnestly for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi to give Nigerian presidency another shot in 2027, knowing fully well that members of OBIDIENT MOVEMENT across Nigeria are waiting in their trenches to finish what they started in 2023.
  2. Strengthening Grassroots Support: We have resolved to take lessons learnt from the aftermath of 2023 general election and intensify efforts to strengthen our grassroots support group base by mobilizing and engaging citizens at polling units, wards, local government, Senatorial zone levels and state, ensuring that our movement is inclusive and representative of the diverse voices within Anambra State and people who are genuinely committed to a new Nigeria as envisage by our Principal, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi.
  3. Resisting External Influence: We stand united in our determination to resist any undue external influence or dominion that seeks to undermine the integrity and autonomy of our movement, as well as the political processes in Anambra State. Though, we are ready to work with the leadership of the Obidient movement at the national led by Dr. Tanko Yanusa, we will stand against onslaught of dark political forces that work at variance with interest of genuine and committed members of the movement in Anambra State. We will resist any form of Monkey Dey Work, Baboon dey Chop syndrome that nearly brought the movement to its knees in the state.
  4. Support for Anambra Governorship Candidates: The OBIDIENT MOVEMENT have not endorsed any candidate yet but will rally behind any Governorship candidate who meets our established criteria, who align with our core principles of accountability, good governance, and community welfare. Mostly, we are ready to back any candidate whose vision and political aspirations resonates with the ideals and values of our servant leader, Mr. Peter Obi whose selfless and human capital development oriented program is legendary. Our choice candidate must be someone that put Anambra citizens first and not self glorification and aggrandizement.
  5. Engagement and Awareness Campaigns: We commit to launching awareness campaigns that educate citizens about the importance of their participation in the electoral process, emphasizing the need for informed voting in the 2025 Governorship elections as soon as our choice candidate emerged. We encourage our members to get ready for this historic exercise.
  6. Unity Among Support Groups: We advocate for unity among all support groups associated with the OBIDIENT MOVEMENT, fostering collaboration and cooperation to amplify our efforts and enhance our collective impact in Anambra State.
  7. Inclusive Decision-Making: Our movement will promote inclusive decision-making processes that allow for the input of all members, ensuring that diverse perspectives are considered and valued in shaping our collective stance and strategies.
  8. Regular Assessment and Feedback: We will establish mechanisms for regular assessment and feedback within our movement, allowing us to adapt and respond to emerging challenges while maintaining our focus on our goals.

In conclusion, the OBIDIENT MOVEMENT remains resolute in its mission to foster a political environment in Anambra State that reflects the will and welfare of its citizens. Together, we will strive for a brighter future under the guidance of Mr. Peter Obi and the principles we stand for.
