The Nteje Elders Forum (NEF), has frowned at the Anambra State House of Assembly’s resolution to arrest the President General of the community, Chief Eze Chinedu Emmanuel.
In a press statement made available to newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the chairman of the Elders’ Forum, Chief Chukwudi Ohanekwu, said the House has no right under any law to issue order of arrest to their PG over land issue.

The House of Assembly had ordered the security operatives to arrest the PG for failing to answer a summon from the House, arising from a petition by some people who alleged they bought about 500 plots from the PG and his executive but resold the land.

But the Chairman of Nteje Elders Forum said it does not fall with the purview of the House to adjudicate over land matters, saying that what they would have done was to direct the parties to Court.

They said when two parties are laying claim to a land, it is not the function of the House to arbitrate in the matter but a Court of competent jurisdiction.

The chairman of the Elders’ Forum further said the office of the President General should be respected, since he has the mandate of his people through valid electoral process.

He advised that efforts should be made to douse tension instead of escalating it by issuing an order for the arrest of PG.

” Issues that border on land are civil matters and therefore there is no need to create unnecessary tension about it”he said.
