The Anambra State Police Command has arrested one suspect, a 25-year old Nasiru Samaila, and recovered a locally made Beretta pistol, live ammunition, and suspected hard drugs in Awka.
The suspect is reportedly among those “bad guys” that usually rob and terrorize innocent people during Imoka Festival.
Acting on information, Police operatives from Rapid Response Squad(RRS) Awka in their effort to effect the arrest of the said Nasiru encountered strong resistance as he was said to have allegedly fired shots while trying to escape but was subdued by police.
According to an eye witness , a police operative was injured during the scuffle and is receiving treatment.
The police had intensified operations to ensure a crime-free Imoka festival celebration.
