The Anambra State Police Command has strongly condemned the brutal killing of natives from Ebonyi State who were attending a meeting in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the incident occurred on the evening of June 30, 2025, when unidentified gunmen opened fire indiscriminately on a peaceful gathering, leaving ten people dead and several others injured.

Describing the attack as “regrettable and senseless,” the Command assured the public that it is fully committed to apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the armed assailants arrived in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and launched an unprovoked attack on the meeting, firing sporadically at the attendees,” SP Tochukwu said.

He added that following the attack, the victims were rushed to the hospital, where ten people were sadly confirmed dead. The deceased have since been deposited at the morgue.

Meanwhile, a police-led security team has secured the scene and commenced investigations. The Command is currently working on credible leads and intelligence to identify and arrest those responsible for the heinous act.

The Police have called on members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that may aid the ongoing investigation

13 natives of Ebonyi state were killed on Monday evening by unidentified gunmen during their monthly meeting in Ogboji, Orumba South local of Anambra State.
