How Flood Swept Away 2 Children In Ihiala Over Bad Roads

Two children have been allegedly swept away by a menacing flood disaster that occurred on the very deplorable Ala-Ife road in Uli community Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, following torrential rainfalls in the area.

A trending video evidence which showed that the road is now a death-trap, calls for urgent government attention and interventions to avert further flood and erosion devastations in the community.

The video showed that the very massive ill-fated Ala_Ife road in the council chairman’s community has been abandoned for years unconstructed, resulting to its very deplorable state as farmers can no longer access their farms; children no longer go to school whenever it rained for fear of being swept away by flood coupled with other difficulties inhabitants of the area faced accessing the inaccessible Ala-Ife road in Uli community.

The video voice-over equally revealed that the people living along Ala-Ife road have been suffering for years such that vehicles can no longer access the road even though they have written several letters to Ihiala Local Government Authority for urgent remedial actions on the road but all to no avail as none of the letters have been responded to.

It further revealed that a 48-hour heavy downpour in the area resulted to the loss of two children who were swept away by a devastating flood due to the lack of drainage channels on both sides of the road. It reiterated that children do not go to school whenever it rained and that the road becomes completely impassible on such occasions.

It however appealed to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to come to the aid of Ihiala Local Government Area especially those living along Ala-Ife road because they are completely helpless.

When contacted to speak on the ill-fated Ala-Ife road, the Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Charles Ojiakor, who hails from Uli community, did not respond to phone calls and did not reply the message sent to him by this journalist concerning the hardships and sufferings of the people accessing the very deplorable Ala-Ife road in his community.
