Youths of Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have paraded an aged man for killing for killing what they described as “sacred python” in the community, popularly known as Eke Idemili.
The paraded man, whose identity is yet to be revealed, is said to hail from Abakaliki in Ebonyi state, but resident in Nkpor.
The parading was captured in a video currently trending on social media, showing the man walking round the street and singing a threnody they compelled him to sing, with the python hung round his neck, while the visibly angry youths follow him around with cane and clubs, flogging and making videos of him.
According to a background voice accompanying the video, killing of python is a taboo in the area, but the paraded suspect killed it and intended to eat it.
He also alleged that the suspect had already cut off the head of the python in his house and had already grinded pepper and crayfish he would use to prepare the python pepper soup, before he was caught by the community youths.
The the video and the actions of the youths have sparked off a chain of reactions and counter-reactions on social media, with many condemning it as barbaric, intimidation and unjustifiable.
