Crisis Hits Anglican Diocese Awka as Archbishop Ibezim Faces Allegations of Asset Diversion, Despotic Leadership

The Association of Clergy in the Diocese Of Awka, Anglican Communion has reaffirmed their support and loyalty to the spiritual headship and leadership of Most Rev’d Alexander Ibezim, the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger.

The group which comprised the 279 Clergy in the Diocese of Awka stated this in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Awka, Anambra state capital.

The communiqué was signed by Ven. Godfrey Molokwu and Ven. K.E.N Chukwukamma, the Chairman, Awka Diocesan Clergy Association and Clerical Synod Secretary respectively.

The Awka Diocesan Clergy dissociated themselves from what they called campaign of calumny, viscous propaganda against Most Rev’d Ibezim and members of his family.

They distanced themselves from the nine-crusaders who claimed to be members of the clergy and their activities, clarifying that no Clergy belonged to the group.

“We totally and entirely desassociate curselves from the campaign of calumny, viscous propaganda, outrageous and false petitions being peddled against our father in God, His Grace, the Most Rev’d Alexander Ibezim and his family,

“We are wholeheartedly satisfied, truly happy, greatly empowered and virtually uplifted under the very able, dynamic and purposeful, progressive and Holy Spirit inspired leadership of Most Rev’d Ibezim.

“That at no time have we complained, murmured, quarreled or been in overt or covert disputation, rancour, revolt or rebellion against our beloved.

“That our Archbishop has never retrenched any worker of the Diocese of Awka.

“That we hereby pledge, endorse, assert and reconfirm total and absolute loyalty, undivided commitment and hearty devotion in service under God, in all things physical and spiritual, to Most Rev’d Ibezim,” it said.

The Clergy said they stood firmly with Ibezim on the sanitisation of the legal team as recommended by the peace committee of the diocesan board, and that any diocese land sold was duly approved by the board and authorised by the Synod of Awka.

The commended the Archbishop for executed numerous projects from 2010 worth over N10 billion including establishment of the
Mount Zion International Retreat and Resource Centre and Millenium Printing Press Awka.

They said Ibezim also established the Millenium College of Nursing Sciences, Archbishop Alexander Ibezim College of Education Nibo-Nise and Millennium Micro Finance Bank Ltd.

“He also revamped the Diocesan Hospital Awba ofemili, revamped St Faiths Hospital Awka, erected new Anglican Village Ifite Awka with the Archbishop’s Palace and Archive Centre.

“Renaissance Modern Polytechnic, upgraded infrastructure at Paul University Awka and established the Queens Convent, Awka,” it said.
