The Anambra State Police Command has issued a comprehensive security advisory to all road users, visitors, and residents as December approaches.
According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the period is typically marked by heightened commercial activities, increased movement of people and goods, festive gatherings, and, unfortunately, a rise in opportunistic criminal activities.
He urged all residents to exercise increased caution throughout the period.
Ikenga stated that security operatives have intensified visibility policing, highway patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-driven raids on identified criminal hideouts.
He said joint security deployments are also active across public places, markets, religious centres, and major transit hubs.
He further explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the Command’s full commitment to maintaining the safety, peace, and security of Ndi Anambra during the festive season and beyond.
The CP urged residents to:Remain vigilant and stay aware of their surroundings at all times.Avoid unnecessary late-night movements.Ensure that homes, shops, and business premises are properly secured with functional locks, lighting, and surveillance where possible.Report suspicious persons, gatherings, vehicles, or activities immediately to the nearest police formation.Strengthen local community security networks in collaboration with the Police.
The Command also issued stern warnings against reckless driving, speeding, drunk-driving, and violations of traffic regulations. Motorists are advised to service their vehicles regularly, obey traffic officers, and avoid night journeys whenever possible.
On cyber-security, the Command cautioned residents to be wary of online fraud, including fake investment schemes, fraudulent job offers, phishing attempts, and identity theft, which typically increase during festive seasons. The CP advised the public to “verify before you trust,” stressing that security is a shared responsibility.

The Command emphasized that it will not tolerate any form of criminal activity during the festive periods. Individuals or groups planning to exploit the season for crime are strongly warned to desist, as the full weight of the law will be brought upon offenders.
