The Best Brain Contest of Akpoazaa Group has paid over ₦1 million in cash rewards to winners of the 2025 BBC Anambra Maths and Igbo Quiz (5th Edition).

The payments were made on Monday January 19, 2026, to outstanding students, teachers, and schools that emerged winners in Mathematics and Igbo Language categories.

The competition was convened by education advocate and philanthropist, Dr Frank Igbojindu, PhD, and held on December 13, 2025, at the ASUBEB Hall Awka.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Igbojindu said:

“Investing in Education is an indirect way of storing wealth for future use. It’s indeed the strongest investment any society can make. When you reward excellence, you encourage more hard work.”

In the Mathematics category, Obieze Chikaima of Unizik High School Awka emerged first and received ₦100,000, trophy, medal, and BBC ambassadorial role.

In Igbo Language, Ndubuilo Rosemary of Loretto Special Science School Adazinnukwu also received ₦100,000, trophy, medal, and ambassadorial role.

Second and third position winners in both categories went home with ₦60,000 and ₦40,000 respectively.

According to Dr. Igbojindu:

“This competition is not about who wins alone; it is about building confidence, discipline, and intellectual capacity in our young people.”

Under the competition’s policy, winning students automatically made their teachers and schools winners.

As a result, Unizik High School Awka and Loretto Special Science School Adazinnukwu each received ₦100,000 and trophies as best schools in Mathematics and Igbo Language respectively.

Best teachers, Igboanugo Amaka and Okonkwo Felicia, were rewarded with ₦50,000 each, while other teachers received ₦30,000 and ₦20,000.

Highlighting the focus on teachers’ welfare, Dr. Igbojindu added:

“You cannot talk about quality education without motivating the teacher. When teachers are valued, students perform better.”

He concluded:

“Best Brain Contest is not a one-day event. The 2025 BBC Anambra Quiz is the 5th edition of the program since its inception in year 2021. It is a long-term commitment to education, culture, and national development.”
