The Chairperson of the Planning Committee of the 5th edition of the prestigious Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards, Rev. Sr. Dr. Adaoma Eugenia Sochima Igwedibia, has achieved a landmark milestone in her academic career, attaining the rank of Full Professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.
The promotion crowns decades of distinguished scholarship and institutional service for the renowned linguist and literary scholar, who, until her elevation, was an Associate Professor of English Language and Literature in the Faculty of Arts at the same university.
Prof. Igwedibia’s academic journey traces its roots to Development Primary School, Awkuzu, and Girls’ Secondary School, Nteje, before she proceeded to the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu.
She went on to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where she graduated with First Class Honours in English and Literary Studies; a result so outstanding that it earned her an automatic appointment as a lecturer at the institution.
She subsequently obtained both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from UNN, specialising in Literary Pragmatics, before transferring her services to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she has built a formidable academic and administrative career.
Prof. Igwedibia’s research interests encompass Pragmatics, African and African-American Literature, Diaspora Studies, and Gender Studies. She has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly articles in reputable local and international journals, and her English textbooks are widely used by students across Nigeria.
An active participant in the global academic community, she has presented papers at conferences both within Nigeria and abroad, and has received Institutional-Based Research Grants as well as Book Development Grants from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), where she also served as former Deputy Director of TETFUND at UNIZIK.
Her administrative footprint is equally impressive. She has served as Deputy Director of the Advancement Centre at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Council Member of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN), including membership of its 5th Governing Council; Deputy Director at the Centre for Sustainable Development, UNIZIK; and Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at UNIZIK.
She currently sits on the Governing Council of the European University of Nigeria, Abuja; a testament to her expanding influence in institutional governance far beyond her home institution.
Her appointment as Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 5th edition of the AMTY Awards has been widely applauded by the organizers, who cite her integrity, visionary leadership, and extensive professional network as qualities that align perfectly with the values the AMTY brand represents.
“Expectations are high that this year’s edition will surpass all previous ones,” the organizers stated, expressing confidence that Prof. Igwedibia’s leadership will bring fresh energy and reach to the ceremony.
The AMTY Awards is an annual event that celebrates outstanding Anambra personalities across the fields of business, academia, public service, and entertainment.
The 5th edition is expected to draw top dignitaries, thought leaders, and young achievers from across Nigeria, once again shining a spotlight on those who are redefining excellence and inspiring a new generation of visionaries in Anambra State and beyond.
