FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited (FPEDL) has announced a planned temporary power outage in parts of Anambra State today, March 6, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00pm

According to Izunna Okafor, Head of Communications FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company

“The outage, which is expected to last for about two hours (between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon) has been scheduled to enable the technical team of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to carry out an emergency operational procedure at the Onitsha 132kV Transmission Station.

“Specifically, the exercise will involve the opening of Bus 1 and Bus 2 at the 132kV station to allow the Protection, Control and Metering (PC&M) team of TCN to open the 132kV Bus Isolator connected to the T4 150MVA 330/132kV Transformer.

… this procedure has become necessary to facilitate a stability test on the transformer following a recent trip triggered by its differential protection system. The test is aimed at ensuring the operational integrity and stability of the equipment before it is fully returned to service.

“As a result of this exercise, electricity supply will be temporarily interrupted to areas served by the following facilities:

• Nibo Injection Substation

• GCM Injection Substation

• All 33kV feeders connected through the Awada TCN interface and their associated 11kV feeders

“Customers within these locations and surrounding areas are therefore kindly advised to expect a temporary interruption of electricity supply within the stated period.

“FirstPower wishes to emphasize that this planned outage is strictly for technical and system stability purposes and forms part of ongoing efforts to safeguard critical transmission infrastructure and ensure a more reliable power supply network.

“The Company regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of its customers as the relevant technical teams work to strengthen the stability and efficiency of the power system.

“Electricity supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the exercise.

“FirstPower remains committed to keeping its customers adequately informed on developments affecting electricity supply and continues to work closely with relevant sector stakeholders to improve service delivery.”
