By Ebuka Onyekwelu, Ph.D

Communications and public relations specialist, Emeka Ozumba, is challenging Hon. Chidi Ibemeka, the member representing Njikoka 1 constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, for the APGA ticket for Njikoka 1 Constituency. Mr. Ozumba, a former Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the former Governor of Anambra State, is making a case of ineffective representation against Hon. Chidi Ibemeka.

On Tuesday, Emeka Ozumba joined over 100 other aspirants competing for the 30 legislative seats in Anambra State House of Assembly on the platform of APGA to appear before the party’s Screening Committee at the party’s regional office in Awka.

Addressing journalists after the exercise, Emeka Ozumba commended the screening process. “My name is Emeka Ozumba. I am aspiring to contest as a member representing Njikoka 1 constituency, which comprises Enugwu-Ukwu, Nwafia, and Enugwu-Agidi. I have just walked out of the screening process, which I must commend. You know, you don’t use the word transparent fleetingly, but I could say it was quick, direct, and from indications, the guidelines set out are being followed, and I believe it will yield positive results for our party to a large extent, and I came out with high hopes,” Ozumba said.

Speaking on his confidence in winning the party’s ticket for the election, Mr. Ozumba said he has never been more convinced. “I have never been more convinced. My personal conviction is that I will add value, better value,” Ozumba said, pointing out that he has participated in party activities “on all fronts” for over a decade and therefore feels the pulse of constituents. “In lawmaking, you are not just there. If you become passive, you will miss the action. I bring on board 8 years of executive experience, 20 years plus experience in political communication management”, Ozumba said.

On why he is challenging the incumbent, he said it is due to “perceived non-performance of the current member,” which he pointed out that if left unchallenged, might lead to the collapse of APGA in Njikoka 1 constituency.

Emeka Ozumba is aspiring to represent Njikoka 1 State Constituency on the strength of his 7-point agenda as follows: lawmaking craft, problem-to-bill pipeline, leveraging committees, constituency command town halls, communication discipline, accessibility and projects, and finally, character spine.

As an old party loyalist, and given the direct primary election mode adopted by APGA, Emeka Ozumba’s aspiration against the incumbent is one many observers are looking up to with keen interest.
