UMUNYA, Anambra State — Tansian University has dismissed claims that a priest linked to the institution sexually harassed a female student, describing the allegations as false and damaging to its reputation.

In a statement released by the university management, the Registrar, Rev. (Dr) Innocent Uke, MST, stated that “no incident of sexual harassment involving the said priest and any female student took place either within the University premises or outside the institution as alleged.”

The management said the accusations are “entirely unfounded, misleading, and capable of tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of both the priest and the University.”

The statement acknowledged a minor crisis at the university last week but clarified that it had no connection to sexual harassment. The matter, according to the management, has been reported to the police and is under investigation.

Tansian University, a faith-based institution in Umunya, Anambra State, reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct, including sexual harassment, intimidation, and abuse of students and staff.

“The University Management maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of misconduct,” the statement read. It added that the university does not “condone, support, or consolidate any act capable of undermining the dignity and safety of members of the academic community.”

The management urged the public to disregard the allegations and called on those spreading the claims to stop circulating unverified information that could cause panic and reputational damage.

Tansian University was founded on Catholic principles and operates under the missionaries of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
