The Anambra State Government has held its first State Executive Council meeting since the inauguration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second term and the swearing-in of members of his cabinet.

During the meeting, held at the Light House, Awka, on Monday, several key decisions were taken, including the commencement of the enforcement of cashless tax payments.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, who added that cash collection for tax payments would be severely punished.

Mefor noted that cash collection for tax payments remains prohibited in the state and that defaulters would henceforth face harsh penalties.

He added that the council also set out specific objectives for the second-term ANSEC retreat aimed at establishing team cohesion so that the state executive council would function as a team rather than merely as individuals.

According to him, the objective is to align all members with their responsibilities so that they know exactly what is expected of them individually and collectively.

The statement read in part, “On May 25, 2026, the Soludo government’s second-term Anambra State Executive Council met for the first time at Light House, Awka, and made several significant decisions, including the following.

“The Council set out two specific objectives for the second term’s ANSEC Retreat, which will establish team cohesion so that the state executive council will function as a team rather than merely as individuals, and to align all members with their responsibilities so that they know exactly what is expected of them individually and collectively.

“The retreat will be held in the state this week.

“The Council once again noted that cash collection for tax payments remains prohibited in the state and that defaulters will henceforth face harsh penalties.

“This followed a report that cash collection for tax payments was still occurring in some areas of the state.”
