Community jubilates as Soludo end 40-year agitation for creation of autonomous communities

The people of Enugwu village, Adazi-Enu community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Sunday, June 14th 2026, staged a peaceful jubilation to expressed appreciation to governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for ending a 40-year agitation for the creation of autonomous community in their domain and other part of the state respectively.

 

The jubilation lead by the village’s chairman, Barrister Jideofor Okongwu was held at the village square amidst presence of thousands of elderly men/women, youths and non-indigenes residing in the area.

Recall that Governor Soludo last week declared that autonomous communities in Anambra state no longer exist, following what he described as a final resolution of a long-standing legal battle that had moved from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.

The statement surfaced in a video clip shared online by one of the governor’s aide, Mr Izuchukwu Adichie, where the governor addressed the issue of community autonomy in Anambra state.

In the video, Soludo said that the Supreme Court judgment has effectively settled the matter, describing it as having “buried” the issue of autonomous communities in Anambra State.

 

According to him, the ruling puts an end to years of disputes surrounding the recognition and status of autonomous communities across the state.

 

Reacting further on the development, Barrister Okongwu, commended the governor for putting to an end a 40-years agitation that would have amount to a bloody clashed between kindreds in the village and Adazi-Enu community at large.

 

According to Okongwu, who is also the former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Anaocha branch, the village has been unrest, divisive and unproductive for the past thirty years over the agitation saga, urchestrated by some greedy and unprogressive elements who chooses to run an autocratic leadership in the area.

 

“We have been in this self-afflicted agitation for forty years until last week Friday, June 5th, 2026, when the Supreme Court of Nigeria finally delivered a judgement in our favor baning the creation of autonomous communities in Anambra State through the effort of our solution governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, which gave birth to today’s jubilation across the village to thanked our people for their support and prayers during the court process and also to appreciate Soludo for coming to our aide.

 

All government projects in the area has been abandoned as a result of the ugly situation.I am using this jubilation to appeal to the governor to help us restore the loss glory of the village by commencing work in the abandoned road project that link Nnewi, the industrial city of the State to boost the sales of our agricultural produces and other economic activities in the area.

 

“As I speak, we are witnessing a massive returned of our people back home from our neighboring towns because peace and hope has finally been restored, Okongwu expressed happiness.

 

Also speaking, the President general of Adazi-Enu Town Union, High Chief Emmanuel Ejidike, described the Judgement as a welcome development, adding that the verdict is a milestone for the progressive and development of Enugwu village, Adazi-Enu community, Anaocha Local Government Area and Anambra state as a whole.

 

Ejidike while also describing Soludo as a talk and do governor, urged the village chairman to welcome and incorporate all the aggrieve members back to his day-to-day activities of the town for the sake of peace and unity.

 

In their separate appreciations, Chief Ifeamyi Okonkwo, Chief Uchenna Moujiekwu and Mrs Ngozi Okeke, equally thanked the governor restoring peace in their land.

 

They promised to continue to support the governor in prayers to enable him actualize his vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous state in Nigeria.
